If you go to the dictionary and look up “Corvette,” you will see a definition that reads, “A lightly armed, fast ship used mostly for convoy escort and ranging in size between a destroyer and a gunboat.” Harley Earl found the perfect name for his 1953 masterpiece. Over the years the car has evolved heavily, but in every generational upgrade, the vehicle stays faithful to its original design intent: be an affordable yet breathtakingly powerful and beautiful automobile.
Almost as remarkable as the vehicle itself are its loyal owners/drivers. These people live, eat, and sleep the Corvette. They know anything and everything about the vehicle. A great site in which I have been a member for almost a year is corvetteforum.com. The members there are almost all Vette owners (I hope to be joining their ranks soon once I save up some money) and are all extremely passionate about their ride. Any time I have a question or need help and or advice, I almost immediately get insightful and informative help. I asked the members at the site if they could tell me some things about the car and I received a healthy amount of replies.
TMyers had a great story: “I’ll get you started. It is all about the versatility of the car. While there are many cars on the market that can beat the Vette in any one area few if any can beat it overall. I am on my second C6 and with a little luck next year will get a GS. A little story that happened awaile back.
The wife and I where coming back from my parents house when I remembered we where in the market for a new lawnmower and the Honda dealer is close to there house so we decide to stop in. They sell both cars and lawn equipment. I pull up to the front and the sales guys jump on me trying to talk me out of the Vette for a S2000. I tell them I am not in the market for a car and just came to look at lawn mowers.
Well they cut me a real good deal on the mower and I didn’t want to drive 60 miles to get the truck and come back. I size up the mower, fold the arms up and determine it will fit. I have a coupe. Well I roll it out, pop the trunk and all hte sales guys are saying it won’t fit. The lawn guy helps me lift it in and I shut the hatch. No issues at all and does not tough a thing.
I turn to the car sales men and say, if you have a car on the lot that does 180+ mph, 0-60 in 4.5, the 1/4 in 12. something, gets 28+mpg on the highway and can carry one of your lawn mowers I will buy it today. Of course we know the answer.
Understand I did not buy the Vette to replace my truck. And if this would of been anything other than a brand new lawn mower it would never have gone back there. But this car is my wifes daily driver, our vacation car, my weekend and autocross car. I can carry 2 sets of clubs plus luggage for extended stays.
I am just totally impressed by everything this car can do.”

Corvette owners are great! I guess it must be the 6.2-liter v8, cranking out 430 hp stock that keeps them in a constant state of euphoria. With the way car sales are right now, for around $40 grand, you can get into a car that could take out a Ferrari in 4 seconds flat. There is no better deal, bang for the buck wise, out there, than the Corvette. Amazing car, amazing heritage, amazingly faithful and knowledgable drivers. Right now I’m in a 2003 v6 Accord coupe, a far cry from the Vette. My next car will definitely be the Vette and I’m glad that my money will be going toward the hard working people in the hard hit US auto working industry.
