I consider myself to be a Nets fan, as pathetic as that may seem to many of you. Growing up in NJ, rooting for and watching the likes of Kerry Kittles, Jayson Williams, Keith Van Horn, and Gheorghe Muresan was not easy for me. Knick fans had Allen Houston, Patrick Ewing, Starks, Mason, Oakley, LJ, etc. However badly the team performed, I still remained faithful to them, and always tried to find the light in the darkest of times.
The past few years have been awful to the Nets. Last season almost made me want to watch the Wizards instead of NJ. Although they have some bright spots (Lopez, Harris, Lee, Douglas-Roberts), and are trying to build up some hype for the free-agent Summer of 2010, I still feel like in the end, the Nets will cheap out, as they always do, and instead of picking up high caliber talent, they will unload someone like Harris to save a few bucks. They always try to justify their cutbacks as an excuse to “rebuild” the team and to grow young. The Nets have been rebuilding the team since they have been in existence. It’s time to make a run for it already.
I’m not even going to try to touch upon the team’s planned attempts to move to Brooklyn….
There is one new thing that the Nets front office has done to draw attention to the team in recent weeks. However, it is an embarrassing and disgraceful marketing ploy. The Nets are offering a 10 game ticket package plan that comes with not only a four week subscription to the New York Post, but reversible NJ Net Jerseys. Oh wait, did I say Net jerseys. What they’re actually giving away are reversible jerseys with a Net all-star on one side, and the opposing-team’s all-star on the other. You can get a Brook Lopez / Dwight Howard jersey, Courtney Lee / Kobe Bryant jersey, Devin Harris / Dwayne Wade jersey, Yi / Kevin Garnett jersey, and last but not least, my favorite, Jarvis Hayes / Lebron James jersey. I’m speechless………..
