The WORST Credit Card Company Ever – Marriott Rewards Chase Visa
DO NOT apply for a Marriott Rewards Chase Visa card (any of the levels). It is the worst credit card company ever in terms of customer service and fees. I have had American Express for five years and have never had a problem but I have had several problems over the last couple of years with Chase Marriot Rewards Visa and I am extremely disappointed and upset with their service for many reasons.
During the summer, I decided to make a payment three days after my payment period ended. I went online, clicked pay bill, and made the payment of the full balance. The next month I was shocked to find fees on my bill because I did not “make the payment in full.” I called them immediately to demand an explanation. They said that they do not update the statement balance to correctly reflect the month that had closed for anywhere up to 96 hours after the payment period ends.
I was flabbergasted. I was so exasperated I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. How is this possible? How can they not update the statement balance? I couldn’t understand how this was allowed to happen. I asked if this was legal and the person didn’t really have an answer (probably because she was not trained to answer that question). I asked them if they could remove the fees because what happened was ridiculous and she removed the fees. Unfortunately, I did not report them to any of the government agencies that oversee credit card companies, and now I am paying for it.
Last month, I remember making my credit card payment on time and with the correct balance. Stupidly, I did not save the email confirmation or the confirmation page that I received after I had gone through with the payment. I checked my statement balance to make a payment today and now I found $6 in finance charges and $39 in late fees on my card. Furious, I called the company. They claim that there is nothing in their computer system and I did not make any payments. The supervisor said the same thing; there is no payment and no error in their system either (maybe the error was that the system didn’t record anything and falsely sent a payment confirmation?). I know for a fact that I paid the bill last month. Everyone forgets to do things once in a while but I did not this time.
Anyway, you hear about the times that they will write off late fees if its your first one? Well apparently Chase Marriott Rewards Visa does not give benefits to good card holders that always pay on time. So if you are looking for a good credit card, avoid the Chase Marriott Rewards Visa at all costs. Have you experienced anything like this before?
