What I plan on doing during my winter break…..Today, I took my last final examination of the fall semester. I am now exactly halfway done with law school. Hallelujah. Now, let’s just hope I did well.
For the next 5 weeks, I plan on cherishing every moment of freedom that I have. Yes, that often will include bumming around and sleeping till noon, but I do plan on accomplishing certain things.
First off, I plan on working with Jay Booshay on rebuilding this blog. That involves, most likely, changing domain names and upgrading to premium hosted servers. We’re going to write an article in the next few days outlining the upcoming changes, but get ready for a more interactive site including short movies, video and audio podcasts, possibly a user forum, and much more. We’re always looking for tips and advice on how to make the site better, so feel free to shoot us an email.
Secondly, I plan on going snowboarding / skiing at least three times. When I was up at Buffalo during college, I would go about 10 times a season. Since then, I haven’t gone yet. I miss it tremendously and hope to catch up on lost time. There’s something about being alone on top of a mountain, strapped to a board, that gets my heart pumping. When I’m riding, I often feel like I’m in a Rage Against the Machine music video. Don’t ask me why….
Third, I’m tentatively planning some road trips. I’m heading down to D.C. with my dad this weekend to protest the increase of troops in Afghanistan proposed by President Obama. Should be a wild time. I hope to catch some Knicks / Nets games as well, maybe even a Jet game if I could afford it. I might attempt to get up to Buffalo for a weekend as well. Only time will tell.
Fourth, I want to read some books that are not legal related. During the semester, I have little to no time to read for pleasure. Everything I read revolves around statutes of limitations, admissibility of evidence, arraignments, corporations, and the like. Part of the reason why I enjoy co-writing this blog is because it gives me an outlet to vent things that are on my mind. Normally, I’m stuck writing briefs, memos, and motions all semester, so this blog gives me a chance to escape the mediocrity that has become my life as a law student. I plan on reading the Warren Zevon biography, some books on Search Engine Optimization (techie material), and possibly the Bill Clinton Tapes book. So much to read, so little time.
Fifth, I’m going to eat and drink my brains out. I might try to keep the drinking to the weekends, but the eating, well, let’s just say I’m going to take advantage of having a loaded kitchen at my disposal. I’ve been home for less than 2 hours, and I’ve already had lunch with my mother and aunt for my mom’s birthday at a diner, and we plan on going out to eat at a steakhouse tonight as well. Have you ever heard of the freshman fifteen? Well I plan on putting on the second year seventy seven.
Lastly, I’m going to watch as many movies as time permits. I love movies. I’m a big fan of the escape that they provide from our daily, mundane lives. I want to watch some of the classics. My family just got a brand spankin new Panasonic Blu Ray player with Vierra Cast so I plan on putting it to good use.
This list is by no means all inclusive. I’m sure there are many things that I’m going to do that aren’t on this list, and I’m sure much of what I wish to do will not be accomplished. All I know is that for the next five weeks, I have next to nothing to worry about, until this semester’s grades are released…..
