Verizon Wireless frequently updates their cell towers and cell phone service network, providing more roaming capabilities and new towers in areas. Unfortunately, this doesn’t automatically update your phone. However, there is a way to update your phone to Verizon’s continuously evolving network.
Verizon provides a really easy way to update your phone to its new network capabilities. Dial *228 on your phone. This is also the same way to activate a new phone or to change to a new phone. Instead of pressing 1 to program a new phone or 3 to change phones, press 2 to update your roaming capabilities. Verizon will take a couple of minutes to reprogram your phone with the new locations of the towers and new programming. After this, it says commit ok! and programming successful. At this point, you can hang up.
I recommend restarting your phone after this. You should do this by performing a battery pull. Take off the the battery cover plate and take out the battery. Press the power button and hold it for at least 10 seconds. After that, put the battery back in and turn it on. This should reset your phone so that everything should check out.
And now your phone will be updated. Enjoy!
