was released, I have not really been playing it until the last couple of weeks. I used to play the first game and it was a great game. 4 player multiplayer, non-stop action and you can play with your friends. Although Left 4 Dead 2 Left For Dead 2 Review 2 Months After Release
is definitely better, there is one feature that it does not have that I will miss.
Left For Dead 2 is basically Left For Dead on steroids. There are new campaigns, new characters and a ton of new features. The multiplayer features basically take the brunt of it.
Coming from Gears of War 2 and then Halo 3 ODST, Left For Dead’s Survivor mode is definitely a nice welcome. It puts you in a location with four friends, online or offline, to find against hordes of enemies. Your objective is to stay alive for as long as possible. 4 minutes, 7 minutes then 10 minutes gets you a medal. All of the infected types are included and they just keep coming. Luckily, you are given tons of weapons, first aid, explosives (like propane tanks and gas tanks) just lying around for you to use. You really have to use teamwork to survive because the enemies do not stop. And all of them are there – tanks, spitters, jockeys, hunters, boomers etc… Its a great, intense mode.
The usual multiplayer versus mode is included, as well as online ability to play the campaign with friends. I am not sure if the first one had that but this one does.
There is a new mode – scavenger mode – where the survivors have to collect fuel tanks in order to survive. A clock ticks down, making this a very fast paced match.
However, it lacks one vital part of the first game – you can no longer play four players on the same console. It sucks because more and more games are moving to this (Gears of War) and moving away from the Halo based multiplayer where four people can play on the same console. Unfortunately more and more games are moving to this and it sucks.
Other than that, the game is great. The single player campaign is best played with friends or online with others because its better to work together and the AI controlled team members are really weak. They are not smart and really are worse than the enemies when you are in trouble – they are a great shot but when shit hits the fan, they really do not try to help you much. If you were a fan of the first one, or if you really like fast paced FPS games, you should check it out. Have you played it?
