Welcome back to another round of, “Let’s Complain About Facebook!” In the past, we’ve talked primarily about Facebook’s manipulation and retarded implementation of its privacy policies. Today, we will be discussing Facebook’s awful new design/layout.
Why was this change necessary? What was wrong with Facebook’s older design. I never liked the News Feed feature, but I could deal with it on the older layout. The new Facebook design now tries to give you everything that you want in a straightforward manner, but in the process, creates an ugly, glitchy, and far worse design than was previously implemented.
I’m not positive about the column designation of the old design, but this new theme’s 3 column layout is very noticeable and unpleasant to the eye. I liked how events, games, groups, etc, was inconspicuously down in the lower left hand side of the screen on the old version. There’s no need to make the main area of the page smaller to fit these buttons in on the side of the homepage. Same thing with the friends online feature. It just seems redundant to me when we still have the chat/buddy list feature operating in the bottom right hand side of the screen. Speaking of the chat menu, before, it looked flush with the rest of the page. Now, it looks strange being by itself on the bottom of the screen. Additionally, when there’s an ad near the chat window, the messenger cuts part of it off. Now I’m not complaining about the disruption of the ads (I hate the ads), but it just looks bad.
I don’t understand Facebook. They continually role out poor designs/unnecessary features on each successive update to Facebook. Just when people start to get used to the updates, they change them again. WTF? I feel like Mark Zuckerberg and crew have a serious case of ADD…..
