President Bill Clinton was hospitalized this afternoon, Feb. 11th, 2010, after experiencing chest pains. Clinton’s adviser, Douglas Band, says the former president is in ‘good spirits’ after undergoing emergency heart surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital, where two stents were placed in Clinton’s coronary artery. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, met with President Obama as scheduled this Thursday and then headed to the hospital to be with her husband.
All this comes after President Clinton recently returned from his relief efforts in Haiti. Clinton, special envoy to Haiti, coordinates relief and recovery efforts on behalf of the United Nations. His heart issues are not a surprise to many, Clinton underwent quadruple bypass surgery in 2004 to open four blocked arteries and has a history of heart disease in his family.
Admirably, Clinton has continued to work with his humanitarian projects through the United Nations and persists to plan efforts for Haiti, even during his bout in health.
