So, I had the opportunity to go out for lunch with my girlfriend this afternoon. We had a lovely lunch at this small Italian bistro in Central Jersey. A full lunch, with plentiful servings, for two, only cost about $19 with a $4 tip, for a very helpful server. Well, my griflriend, the caffeine junkie she is, saw a Starbucks next door and decided to treat me to a nice cup of joe.

She wanted a bit of a fix so she went for the Venti, Starbuck’s version of a “large”, Cappuccino. She had never had it before and asked the barista if it could be made into ”French Vanilla” Cappuccino, expecting it to be the same price as a regular Cappuccino but with a little bit of flavor. The barista said, “Why yes, of course” and rung her up. Rather she rung her up for a regular Cappuccino with an added 60 cents of French Vanilla flavor without saying anything about the extra cost.
She received her Tall (a small) sized cappuccino inside of a Venti cup. The foam took up about half the space within the cup. She also picked up a Tall apple cider for her friend at work. After examining the two we found out that the Tall apple cider actually weighed more than the suppossed Vent cappuccino. So why the outrage? Normally neither of us would have really cared, but her drink cost $4.55 with an additional $.60. $5.15 for a big steaming cup of foam.
