TRAVELISTA TOURS THE USA: ALASKA

With the winter we have been experiencing, I am sure the last place anyone would wish to travel to right now is Alaska. Us “Mainlanders” may be sick of the frigid cold and the abundance of snow, but out in Alaska, the fun is just getting started! Whether you chose to ski among breathtaking snowcapped mountains or would rather watch adorable Huskies race with sleds, you are sure to enjoy your time in Alaska.

Fun fact: Despite popular belief, there is some sunlight during these Winter days. According to Alaska’s Tourism Department, there are periods consisting of 6-13 hours of daylight. Additionally, temperatures average around 20 degrees Fahrenheit, so it’s not that cold!

HOTEL DEALS

Sheraton Anchorage Hotel & Spa: With a recent renovation in 2008, this property brings modern luxury out to Anchorage. Amenities include a 24-hour fitness facility and the fabulous ICE Spa. The hotel even boasts a Sushi bar. Where better to enjoy fresh fish than in Alaska?

I couldn’t help but to feature the hotel’s package that invites guests to pay a rate equal to their birth year for their second and third nights. For the first night, the rate is $139, and if you choose to stay a second or third night, you pay your birth year! If you were born in 1950, expect to stay your second or third nights for only $50! For the savvy traveler, I’d recommend staying a few nights at an authentic Alaskan cottage or bed and breakfast and then coming here for the weekend. (The promotion is valid for arrivals Thursday-Sunday).  Book for stays until the end of this year and make sure to bring a valid ID.

I am truly glad to find a deal that confirms that we do get better with age! Reservations can be made online or by calling 1-866-716-8145 with the promotional code “NBR.”

Millennium Alaskan Hotel – Anchorage: Calling all Star Wars Fans! The Millennium Alaskan Hotel in Anchorage has a package you will not be able to resist. The hotel is located on the beautiful Lake Spenard. While you are not marveling over Skywalker paraphernalia, watch floatplanes go by as you enjoy some casual dining at the Fancy Moose Lounge, head to the 24-hour fitness facility, or go out and explore beautiful Anchorage!

The Star Wars package includes two night’s accommodations in a deluxe king room, two passes to the Star Wars exhibit at the recently remodeled Anchorage Museum, and a 10% off certificate to be used at the museum gift shop. (I’m sure true fans can spend a very long time in there!)

The package price is $179 per night for double occupancy and is valid until April 25, 2010. Reservations can be made online or by calling 1-866-866-8086. *I know I mentioned I was going to be featuring deals that last all year, but I thought this one was too enjoyable to pass up in addition to the Sheraton!

Let the force be with you.
