24 Season 8 Episode 18 Review

The death of Renee Walker pushes us into a whole new world tonight in the 18th episode of 24. 24 Season 8 has been one of the worst seasons of 24 and I have no hopes for tonight. Where will Jack and Chloe take us tonight? After last week’s buzz-killing end of the action for the season, what do they have left? What you will find out is that it is just a mere repeat of the intra-governmental drama that killed season 5. Keep reading my review to find out what I mean.

Jack is still mourning over Renee’s death, which was complete BS, from last week’s episode. He is apparently shaken up and can’t handle it. More of seeing Jack being “emotional.” Personally, I preferred the old Jack. The Jack who was badass. Maybe we’ll see some tonight. Jack looks pissed. In the aftermath of Renee’s death, he demands Chloe tell him who it responsible and where to find him.

Ethan, now apparently well and walking one hour after his near-fatal heart attack, expresses his considerations about President Logan’s involvement. Let me just advise you that it is usually hours before you can even consider walking again and days before you will be up and around. President Taylor can’t tell Ethan what Logan is going to do because she didn’t know. Now we see where this season is really going. Back to more of the unnecessary political drama that we have seen the last couple of years. The same boring drama that has killed it.

President Logan goes to his meeting with the Russian ambassador, Mikail. We are keen to seeing some of the politically-savvy talk amongst two of the least liked characters on the show. Logan accuses Mikail of some sort of orchestrating the attack today and then threatens to reveal it to President Taylor if Mikail doesn’t give in. Great.

Sergey Bhazayev, from the beginning of the season, is now on trial and being held without bail. Jack accuses him of being involved in Renee’s death. And then Jack turns bad-a** again and says that Sergey’s men killed Renee and that Jack is going to repay the favor. Then Sergey tells him the Russian government is behind it. That Dana Walsh is the one who was able to orchestrate everything. That she was behind it. It looks like she knew a little bit more than she let on previously.

Ethan wants to know what Logan did to get the Russians back on the table. President Logan, of course, is hiding that he knows who was behind the attack. This is so gay. I am so sick of Logan. He is the worst TV character on any show in the entire history of TV. And it gets worse. Now Logan’s aide is in on it and knows that Dana Walsh has been exposed. This is just getting worse and worse. Its another political chase. They are going to be fighting the Americans again, not the terrorists. Season 5 was the worst season ever because there was no action. It was all the drama between Logan and the rest of the government. And its happening again right now.

Anyway, Jack is back with Dana Walsh. She didn’t know about Renee being killed. Apparently it wasn’t in her plans. Jack starts roughing her up a bit, hitting her in the face. Showing us his old side. That’s the Jack we are looking for.

Dalyah Hassan was voted in as the leader of the IRK and they are back to work on the treaty when President Taylor is told that President Logan wants to talk to her personally. F*cking Logan. “Bauer has to be stopped.” This is just season 5 all over again. Its unbelievable. Now Logan reveals that he knew about it. Bad move on his part. He refuses to tell Taylor how he knew about the attack and the people behind it. Logan is trying to convince Taylor not to tell Dalyah about it. Allow this peace to continue. Keep it going. It is what she has been working for her entire career. Making the world a better place. He makes quite a good argument. President Taylor decides she needs to goto CTU to talk to Jack Bauer. Does she have the time? I thought they were seconds away from signing the peace treaty?

President Taylor at CTU. Impossible. She cannot get to CTU in under six minutes from the UN. CTU is on Roosevelt Island and they drove to get there in the mid morning traffic, between 9AM and 10AM. Beyond unbelievable. They used to relatively maintain the time frame, but it has gotten ridiculous.

Jack is smart. He knows that Taylor doesn’t want to know, even though she already does. President Taylor doesn’t like being told by Jack Bauer what to do. This is so predictable. They are bringing Jack to McGwire AFB for a debriefing but we know what will happen. In the elevator, he is going to knock the two guards out and then escape, break into Dana Walsh’s cell, and beat her until she tells him what he wants to know. At least there will be some action. Am I right? Let’s see.

President Taylor lays the lockdown on Chloe – no one talks to Dana Walsh and Jack is going to the McGwire AFB. Work on security for the signing of the peace treaty. However, she is pleased to finally meet her.

Jack is about to get in the helicopter. Chloe is watching it on the TV screen. Jack takes out his pistol as he is about to get in the chopper. Chloe realizes this and turns on the audio when Jack says he is going to steal the chopper. Chloe has to call security to the roof to get him back. She runs up and tries to stop him but despite her best efforts to convince him to come back… he leaves. Best line from tonight? Jack takes his gun on the agent transporting him and screams “Put your weapons down or I will kill him.” Too bad it wasn’t a terrorist he was talking about, just a fellow agent. 24 sucks.
