Blackberry OS 6.0 Details

The WEC 2010 was this week and we got to see an exclusive peak at Blackberry OS 6.0. Not only did we get all of the info on its features but a video as well, promoting its release. RIM promises Q3 2010, but that is quite a long time from now. What do we know about the BB OS 6.0? Keep reading to find out the details!

Browser – The most important, and waited for, update to the BB OS is for the browser. The new webkit browser is supposed to be blazingly fast, support tabbed browsing, full desktop style webpages, multitouch and Adobe Flash support. This is a huge update from their old design of “minimalist browser” which unfortunately provides the same minimalist experience.

Media Player – The media player has been redone for a completely new interactive experience. Along the lines of the iPod, they are trying to make it more aesthetically pleasing. Also, the photo viewer looks a bit like the iPhone’s now, tiled thumbnail photos that can be expanded.

Inbox – You can have RSS feeds built directly into your inbox, delivering you the newest updates instantly.

Homescreen – The homescreen now comes complete with pages. You can have all of a certain type of application on one page, then another, etc… This was all shown on a touch screen interface, so the user was simply able to slide left and right to get tot the pages. This is a nice feature but seems to be identical to the iPhone interface.

Overall, the move is in the right direction. They noted a more web 2.0 type feel to the OS. Thanks to Boy Genious Report for all of this great info. If you want to check out the promo video, its right here.
