All within 24 hours, two of my favorite television shows ended. The Lost series finale was Sunday night, and the 24 series finale was last night. How did the two episodes compare to each other? Were either of them good? Click below to read more about the 24 series finale vs. the Lost series finale.
If you read my previous post entitled Lost Series Finale – The End- Sucked, you know what my thoughts were on the Lost finale. The writers got away with murder. Basically, the last 6 years of my life were wasted analyzing, hypothesizing, and generally thinking about a mythical island that in the long run was pretty meaningless to the “end picture” of Lost. The side universe was purgatory, and very little was revealed about the island. Great…NOT. The writers would have been better off making the real universe purgatory. That would have sucked 18 times less than the real ending.
Last night’s 24 series finale was surprisingly entertaining. Yes, there was some extremely unnecessary and comical melodrama, but overall, the episode basically delivered what you expected it to: Jack going ape-shit on everything and taking no prisoners. Jack eventually did break when Chloe talked him down, but overall, he nor the writers didn’t stray from where you thought they were going. Even though Season 9 of 24 has been lackluster, I wasn’t mad with its finale. I’m also extremely glad that they kept Kim Bauer and her typical bullshit out of the episode.
Comparatively speaking, the 24 series finale blew away the Lost series finale. 24 left me satisfied (plus there’s a movie coming up), whereas the Lost series finale made me feel like I just bit into a rotten lemon. With Lost, as I said above, I legitimately feel taken advantage of. The writers clearly told us that the characters weren’t in purgatory, and mocked us for thinking that, but still managed to place the characters (in at least one universe/dimension) into purgatory. Come on. What a joke.
