I just noticed that CNET has a new feature – CNET.com River. I hadn’t noticed it before today but I also don’t often goto CNET. Apparently, they set up a new “news” feed type of feature where you can have it filter certain stories, sort of in a personal blog fashion.
So when you goto CNET, on their navigation menu, they have a new feature called CNET River (Beta). After clicking it, you get a list of the most recent articles, videos, posts, news articles, blog posts, tweets, and more.
Check out the picture I took to see what I am talking about. It doesn’t look too interesting yet, I know.
But if you click “show filters”, you can set up what you will see. If you select categories, you can filter what articles you get such as ”Apple” and “Gaming and Tech” and “Politics and News.” If you don’t want one of them, you can get rid of them.
The next filter is sources. This is where you can filter where the content that shows up. Blogs, videos, galleries, reviews and tweets can all be filtered into your river or out of it, depending on what you want to see.
Lastly, you can specifically filter writers and editors. Unfortunately I do not know about any particular authors on CNET but if you are familiar with them and only want to read things from certain authors, then this is a feature for you.
I like the ability to have all of CNET displayed under one feed. I don’t really have much use for the filtering features. This also really isn’t very useful or unique. What do you guys think? When did this come out? Have any thoughts?
