New Youtube Privacy Settings – Unlisted Video

Youtube has just come out with a new privacy setting for its video services called “unlisted”. Normally when you use Youtube you have two options for listing videos – Public (so that everyone can view it) and Private (so that only you or those that you give permission can view it). This third option will be a great addition to make it easy for select users to view your videos.

The new option is called “unlisted.” When you upload videos to Youtube, it gives you a website to use to view the video. This option, unlisted, allows you to use that URL to send to people to view the video. However, the video won’t show up in searches, public listings, channel listings or your user profile. It simply “won’t exist” in any marketplace or listings but you can send the URL to select people that you want to see the video. This is a great feature and saves you the difficult of having to add people to the approved users list, and if they do not have a gmail account, then it is even more useful.

Personally, I do not upload any videos that I do not want public, so this will be of limited use for me. But people do so all the time, so this is definitely going to help many people out? Have you ever uploaded a private video to Youtube? Let me know!
