What should you do the day before a big exam, such as the USMLE Step 1, MCAT, LSAT or Bar? A lot of people will take that day to cram in all of the rest of the knowledge and study but I take a much different philosophy. It has worked for the last 10 years or so, and it will keep on working for me. So the bottom line is that you should…
… do nothing! Do as little as possible. Enj0y the day before, relax, take some time off. You spent a good amount of effort preparing for the exam and you do not need to study that last day. Play video games, go for a run, hang out with friends, get ice cream, indulge in your passions, and forget the exam.
Make sure you also prepare whatever you need to bring the next morning, including food, scheduling documents, proof of ID, pens/pencils, etc… This is so you don’t have to do it the morning of. Make sure you program your GPS unit and know where you are going the night before.
Also, do something relaxing the night before. Watch a movie, play a video game, see your girlfriend/boyfriend, have your favorite meal, or anything else. Just relax and try to make the best of it.
Do you have any night before an exam rituals or tips? I personally play Xbox the day before. What do you do?
