WordPress 3.0 Review

We have been using WordPress as the content management system for our blog for the last six months and have embraced both its pros and its cons. WordPress was just updated to version 3.0 a week ago and it has provided many new features. What are these new features? I am not really sure. Keep reading to see if it added anything new that you can notice.

So far, the only updates I have noted are to the interface. Nothing else I have noticed is new. There is a new section called “updates” under your dashboard that shows you your version, lets you re-upgrade, and lets you know if any plugin updates and theme updates. But didn’t your plugins section have a little red number above it when there are plugin updates? So what does that really provide? Nothing that I can tell.

There is also a new menu creation feature under the appearance tab. However, I can’t tell you anything about it because my theme does not support it. But, it will let me create a custom menu in the sidebar, which I think is just going to be a list of links in the sidebar.

Another new feature is this ratings feature, which allows readers to rate each post. That is pretty cool and there have been several plugins over the years which have enabled that feature but this makes it easy to have it built directly into WordPress. There is also customizability in terms of where it is in each post, if you can rate pages also, and more.

Those are all of the new features that I can see that pop out at me. Did you notice anything I forgot? These have all been some nice additions to WordPress.
