As I stated earlier in the week, in my Motorola Droid X Review, the phone is nearly perfect. The Droid X is blazing fast, surprisingly well put together for a Motorola device, and at $199, is a great deal. In the 4 days of owning the phone, I’ve only had one gripe with the device. Click below to read more…..
The Motorola Droid X comes with 8gb of on-board memory. In addition, Motorola ships the device with a 16gb microSD card, which brings the total device memory to 24gb. For a smart phone, that’s pretty darn good. My Droid X, on the other hand, only came loaded with 8gb.
How is this so you might ask? Upon bringing the device home, I noticed a notification at the top of the Droid X’s screen. The notification alerted me that the microSD card was removed. I thought that this message might be a glitch, so I decided to look under the battery cover where the memory card slot is positioned. What did I find? NOTHING!
I was furious. I searched through the box to see if maybe it came in a separate pouch, uninstalled. I messaged my other friends who had bought the device as well. I searched Google. Everyone I spoke to / everything I read stated the same thing. The Droid X is supposed to come pre-loaded with the microSD card installed. WTF.
Of course, by the time I noticed the missing microSD card, the Sam’s Club mobile device center had already closed (at 8:30 pm nonetheless). The next day, after work, I stopped by Sam’s Club to try to resolve this situation. The salespeople were confused when I informed them as to this problem. They took my device, looked at the back of it underneath the battery slot, and looked even more dumbfounded. They then proceeded to look in other Droid Xs, as well as regular Droids, to see if they had microSD cards installed. What do you know. The other Droid Xs were missing the microSD cards as well. Jesus.
They couldn’t give me the Droid’s memory card because it was only 8gb. After several minutes of standing around, watching them make calls and email people left and right, I was told that they had to order the memory card. Ugh. I asked how long it would take. They said 4 business days. This was Wednesday, so I knew I would get screwed when they said business days because even though they are open on the weekends, they still do not count Saturday and Sunday as business days.
I called this morning for the hell of it to see if by some miracle they received the memory cards. Of course they didn’t. The guy told me it was an issue with the manufacturer and that I should call back on Tuesday. Great. NOT.
This wouldn’t be such a big deal if this “mistake” didn’t cost my phone 2/3 of its memory capacity, and if it didn’t disallow me from using the camera and select applications. When I finally get this memory card, I’m going to make sure to complain sufficiently to get some free merchandise or a credit. These types of mistakes are unacceptable, and they should have to pay for them.
What are your thoughts on my predicament? Did you have similar problems when purchasing your Droid X?

Wow, that sounds like it was a catastrophe. Obviously a major quality check problem in the Motorola factory. Sorry it happened to you. I was fortunate and my DX came complete.
Yeah, I couldn’t believe that it happened.
