It finally has happened. The Darrelle Revis holdout saga has ended! Hallelujah. Several weeks ago I made a promise to myself that I would not watch one second of Jet football if Darrelle Revis was not on the Jets’ roster. Luckily, I won’t have to worry about that promise this season. Click below to read more about Darrelle Revis and his new contract with the New York Jets.
The following are text messages that I received:
September 6, 12:50AM: “Wooooooooooooooo revis is signing ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh”
September 6, 12:56AM: “Revis is bak!
September 6, 1:34 AM: “Sherwinator wake the f**k up a celebrate mofffoooooooo revisssssss signnnnnsssssssss”
September 6 11:37AM: “Revis say I’m coming home baby to revis island. On twitter”
Those were just a few of the text messages that I received late that night, not too mention I received about 5 phone calls and voicemails. People were stoked. I was stoked. I was curious to find out the details of the contract.
The next morning I woke up, and researched the deal. The contract is for 4 years, worth $46 million, with $32 million guaranteed. To tell you the truth, I was surprised. I originally was hearing that Revis wanted 10 years $160 million. Why did he settle so low?
I think the Jets won these negotiations. Revis must have gotten antsy, and just took the $11 million dollar raise (for one more year than his previous contract). Woody and Rex had flown down to Florida to speak with Revis and his uncle Sean GIlbert earlier that day. I guess their pitch/graveling was good enough to get Revis to sign.
I’m sure in 3 years Revis, if he’s still healthy, will holdout again so that he can finally make the money that he deserves. Who do you think won these negotiations?
